What's Sellability?

Sellability is building your business in a way that you could sell if you wanted to, even if you have no plans to sell at the moment.

Your brand's Sellability is based on 4 factors:

  1. Risk
  2. Growth potential
  3. Transferability
  4. Documentation

We talked about Risk in our last email (again, go back to your inbox and read it if you haven't already.)

So today, we'll cover Growth Potential. 

When's the best time to sell a business?

When it's growing and shows potential for more growth.

When's the worst time to sell a business?

When it's showing signs of decline (e.g. revenues dropping.)

Ideally, you want to plan ahead for your Exit.

You don't want to sell too early before you've mitigated the risks to your brand (see our last email.)

And you don't want to sell too late, when your growth has reached a ceiling.

Remember, someone's only going to buy your business if they think it can grow and make them a nice profit over the purchase price.

Here's an example:

βœ… Your brand is crushing on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

βœ… You've got your retention dialed in with email and SMS.

βœ… You've recently added Google Ads for new customer acquisition (not just brand search.)

βœ… And you've seen a 30% boost to your top line... with another potential 30% by the end of the year.

βœ… And you have plans to expand to Amazon next year, with retail distribution to follow.

This is a great time to sell.

Buyer's will go all πŸ€‘ *money face emoji* at your growth prospects over the next 3-5 years.

And offer you a secksy multiple for your brand.

Pretty cool, right?
